I'm genuinely confused by the confusion. I said clockwise from top left, which means 'whatever' applies to 'non-binary is valid.' I'm indifferent to people calling themselves non-binary, as long as it's not used to justify men entering women's reserved spaces, but to me, 'non-binary' is meaningless. We're all 'non-binary' if the definition is not conforming in full to every single sex stereotype, but most of us call that a personality.

@LauraBeckerReal I'm so very sorry that happened to you. This insight is so important. Nobody can justify emotional manipulation, but I've never forgotten that that doesn't mean the person attempting the manipulation isn't hurting deeply. I see a lot of 'so you're a narcissist' bandied about on here, to the extent that it completely devalues the term, and far worse is seeing it thrown at people who seem very fragile and desperate, even if they're behaving badly on social media. I find it unforgivable that a central tactic of militant gender activism is hyperbolic doom-mongering. If people don't validate your gender identity they want you to die, if you don't get to transition, you'll kill yourself, etc. None of us are capable of being our best selves when we're deeply traumatised or mentally ill, and activists insisting that there's no explanation for questioning the affirmative model for young people other than that non-believers hate trans people is outright cruelty. It isn't true, but puts really vulnerable people into constant fight mode.

@legaltweetz I'm sure I'm older than you, and I well remember the fight for gay rights in the 80s. To say the choice is between 'asking nicely' and what trans activists are currently engaged in is frankly ridiculous. Never did gay rights activists demand that other protected groups lose rights. Never did gay people harangue other liberation movements, for different protected groups (women, people of colour), to centre them rather than themselves. There was no forced teaming, no demanding that anyone change the language they use to describe themselves, only a fight to have the same rights as everybody else: same age of consent, freedom to love who they loved, marry whomsoever they wanted to marry, freedom from discrimination. Every gay person I knew then was pro-freedom of speech and belief. Gay people didn't win rights by behaving as militant trans activists behave. They didn't put on masks and rough up women. They didn't threaten opponents with death or rape or try to take away their livelihoods. They weren't declaring that straight people who didn't want to sleep with them were homophobic. As for 'standing up to the establishment,' gender identity ideology has embedded itself in the establishment to an extent the gay rights movement of the 80s could only have dreamed of.

@legaltweetz The gay people I know/have had contact with who're either directly involved in or supportive of LGB Alliance have concerns around militant trans activism, specifically its often abusive and threatening tactics, its frequent embrace of misogyny and homophobia, its attempts to dictate to other protected groups how they should describe/comport themselves and its practise of forced teaming. Having concerns around clashes of existing rights/activist demands, and misgivings about the harm a militant activist movement is doing to other groups is in no way equivalent wishing harm to befall any individual trans person, and I've never heard any such wish expressed by anyone I know or have heard from on this issue.

@CriticalCupcake @legaltweetz I haven't seen any polling, so wouldn't know the percentage. I'm speaking from direct contact, not only with those I know personally, but the many who've written to me. In any case, as I've never claimed to speak for most gay people, let alone all of them, the point seems moot.

@legaltweetz With respect, I've heard hundreds of people argue this, but, as you're surely aware, your view isn't shared by all gay people. I've been contacted by, and often amplified the voices of gay people who consider gender identity ideology to be profoundly homophobic. I have considerable sympathy for lesbians who object to the so-called 'cotton ceiling' and who're fighting back against the incursion into their physical and online spaces by straight men claiming to be gay women.

@legaltweetz I speak for myself and amplify voices that are often overlooked these days, such as said gay people, and women fighting for their rights. Neither same-sex attracted people nor women are a monolith, and nobody sensible would claim to speak for the entirety of either group.

@legaltweetz I know the founders of LGB Alliance and they're about as far from hate-filled as it's possible to be. They seek to represent the interests of same sex attracted people, no more, no less, and the Cass Report has entirely vindicated their concerns around the transition of children.

That said, if she pleads guilty to the binder clamp charges and pays me damages, I'd be open to Netflix offers (min 7 figures). She'll do it for publicity and a Scotch egg.
